The problem is one that EA Sports doesn't want anybody to know: the tournaments at Ultimate Team are not hierarchic, which means, you can be in the final of some given online tournament and play against someone that's is playing for the semi-final. EA does this to guarantee that everybody can find a match rapidly - or else, in slow hours, you could wait forever just to be able to find a guy on the same stage as you.
